The company operates in two business segments: Targeted Deliveries and Regenerative Medicines.
We are looking for a customer-focused, result orientated Business Development Manager US with a strong drive, hands-on/can-do attitude and a clear bias toward action.
This role is an important addition to our Commercial Team reporting directly to the CCO. The position will support the expansion of out-licensing activities and contribute to building a broader pipeline of Extroducer partnerships with a clear focus on oncology, cardiology, and novel modalities (CGT).
Short- and medium-term success will primarily be measured based on the development of a growing US pipeline by executing on our existing target customer portfolio for the Extroducer.
As Business Development Manager - US you will:
Identify, prioritize, and engage potential partners for the out-licensing of the Extroducer® technology across biotech, pharma, and advanced therapy developers
Leverage your established (CGT) network to initiate and support discussions with relevant stakeholders across business development, R&D, technical operations, and program teams.
Lead and support the outreach and positioning for the Extroducer® platform in the US, ensuring clear and consistent communication of its capabilities and application areas.
Drive the full cycle of BD interactions, including introductory engagement, technical deep‑dive facilitation, and support contractual discussions in close coordination with internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with internal teams (R&D, Regulatory/QA, Marketing and Leadership) to support evaluations, partnership structures, and marketing activities.
Maintain and actively manage the deal funnel, providing regular, structured reporting to leadership and contributing to opportunity prioritization and forecasting.
Prepare and tailor presentation materials for partner meetings, conferences, and internal alignment.
Represent SmartCella at partnering conferences, industry events, customer sites, and scientific meetings in the US to elevate visibility and reinforce relationships: 10-20% travel activity.
The position is remote, but residency in the US, preferably in the Boston/MA area is a requirement.
Professional Experience and Expertise
We believe you need to have:
3 to 5 years of experience in business development (sell-side), product management, key account management, or partnering roles within biotech, CRO/CDMO, medical device, or advanced therapy companies.
A scientific or technical background in Life Sciences (MSc/PhD) is required to support effective communication with partners.
A broad network within the cell and gene therapy or novel modality community in the US — ideally built from experience in BD or key‑account roles.
Demonstrated experience in developing target markets, the execution of go-to-market strategies, target customer profiling in the biopharma space.
Established expertise in out-licensing, technology partnerships, and platform‑based BD, - hands‑on participation in contracting and agreement structuring is a plus.
Strong understanding of drug delivery technologies, cell or gene therapy modalities, or clinical development workflows (ideally medical device experience).
Proven ability to lead partner interactions, manage complex discussions, and move opportunities through the BD funnel with structure and precision.
Experience working cross‑functionally with R&D, legal, and commercial teams.
Ability to operate with independence, ownership, flexibility, as well as strategic clarity in a fast‑moving entrepreneurial environment.

Experience in a small or fast-growing company environment is a plus.
Experience with CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) is a plus.
